Here it is a couple of weeks after the election (YAY!! OBAMA WON!!!) and now that I've had time to decompress, there are a few thoughts rambling around in my head.
It's my belief that Citizens United needs to be walked back, walked back all the way PAST K Street to include lobbyists. Corporations AREN'T people and corporations shouldn't have any say in "We the Peoples" elections. Their corporate 'free speech' should be limited to competitive matters. If it makes toilet tissue, limit it's free speech to talking about how soft and absorbent it's toilet tissue is. Corporations, by law, already possess rights human citizens don't have (limited liability--no matter how many people they injure or kill with their with their products or manufacturing processes, nobody gets sentenced to jail or death-just a small fine and promise not to do it again, Negotiating treaties with foreign governments, a practice expressly forbidden in our Constitution to our citizens and states etc.) If we give them all the rights of people, they'd be "SUPER PEOPLE' with more rights than human citizens.
After the Citizens United decision, I think the only way to walk that back is with a Constitutional Amendment. But I don't see any of our elected officials even pretending to want to go there--They've ALL had a taste of that Citizens United money and they're like that old farm dog who's been on the farm for years who finally kills and eats a chicken. The only way to get that taste of chicken out of his mouth, the only way to keep him from killing more chickens is to take him out in the woods and blow his brains out.
Maybe a charismatic leader can rise up and persuade the citizens of the states to get such an amendment passed.
On the opening day of every new Congress, the Senate can change any of its rules by a simple majority vote. The Senate should take this opportunity to change the rule on 'filibusters' requiring any Senator wanting to filibuster a bill to ACTUALLY stand on the floor and filibuster and not just pass an objection to the Senate leadership stating an objection that requires a super-majority to break.
President Obama, If the Democrats are offering a reasonable compromise on the Fiscal Cliff solution and the Republicans still refuse to compromise, let us go over. You've already cut $4 trillion in discretionary spending. It'll set the economy back about a year but the Republicans will get the blame. The voters will let them know how displeased they are during the 2014 Congressional elections.
Did ya'll see the right-wing pundits a few days before and the day of the election? They were JIGGLING happy, predicting a Romney win, even a landslide even though the polls, even their right-ward leaning Rasmussen Poll, was showing Obama in the lead, some showing him pulling away. They had brought in some fraudulent statistician who was supposed to have 'unscewed' the polls.
I simply can't believe that they believed that ALL the polls were scewed and that would straighten them out. But they really, truly appeared to believe that Romney would shatter the polls and win.
Did you see Carl Roves meltdown on Fox when Ohio, rock solid Obama Ohio, went for Obama? It was like he had been expecting something to happen that didn't. ANONYMOUS claims that his organization blocked Roves 'ORCA' program, a supposed 'get out the vote' program that only went live the night before the election (Obama's get out the vote program had been live and directing volunteers who to contact since the beginning of the year), from hacking voting machines in 3 states.
...is it possible/
...do you think?
Mr. President, I am ecstatic that you won re-election to the Office of President of the United States and most Americans are, but don't be lulled into believing that ALL are. There are masses of folk out here, many who would harm you and your family if allowed to get close enough, who are foaming at the mouth, pissing in their drawers mad that you won. Please be careful. follow the advice of the people guarding you...unless it just doesn't make sense, then balk. Stop your wife from 'slipping away' to go shopping incognito. Have the best agents guarding your daughters.
